Moving Far Far Away to Foreign Lands

We, my family and I, moved to Sweden from the USA at the beginning of the year 2026 (we have only ever lived in Pennsylvania and Georgia for over 40 years) and I have been thinking of keeping a kind of journal of sorts about my experiences, the differences I find, things I didn't expect, stuff like that. I am terrible at keeping journals, so I have no idea if I am capable of doing this for very long, but I can at least start and see where this goes. I don't know what I'm doing. I may or may not share (promote?) this publicly, I haven't decided yet, partly depends on if I keep it up. I don't know if anyone reads blogs anymore anyway. I have also decided to occasionally supplement with random memes and maybe other stuff.

Due to the circumstances of what my husband does as a living in the tech industry, we've done big moves twice before. From PA to GA, and then 10 years later back to (a different part of) PA again. We're not fond of moving, but it comes with his industry sometimes. Mid July 2025, he was suddenly laid off (through no fault of his, there were thousands of others laid off in a big purge of employees- it happens  unfortunately).

His job is specialized so we realized quickly his job search had to expand to include places that we would have to relocate for. Being in the tech industry, so we had assumed that would bring us to the West Coast of the USA or maybe Canada, but we were open to Europe as well if necessary (though hoping for a primarily English speaking area to not cause such a culture shock). The final verdict of his job search though, was that his available job offer was in Sweden. So after months of preparation and a lot of decision making, off we decided to go.

To maybe be continued?
